Located in the southeast side of China's Shandong Peninsula, Qingdao became a commercial port in the late 19th century. Qingdao is the largest estuary in Shandong Peninsula and the Yellow River Basin and a vital part of the Yellow Sea Economic Circle and Bohai Sea Economic Circle. It is also a point of the Golden Triangle formed by China, Japan and South Korea.Qingdao borders with provinces along Yellow River Reach in the east, adjoins north China and northeast China in the north and connects east China and central south region in the south, thus having a vest hinterland and geologically advantage.

 

Qingdao has formed industrial clusters centered on the home appliance, electronics, automobile, shipbuilding, ports, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, it has a strong manufacturing base with conglomerates Haier, Hisense and Tsingtao Brewery featuring amongst its home-grown enterprises. It also hosts numerous other leading companies.

 

There are seven administrative districts and five satellites towns under the jurisdiction of Qingdao. It has a total area of 10,654km² and a resident population of 8.39 million.
